FIVE DAY GROUP DARK RETREAT
Unwinding back into the natural state
with Severin Geser and Katrin Piepenbreier
October 5 -October 11, 2023
January 18 - 24, 2024
This is a beginner-friendly dark room retreat, designed for those who are interested in diving into this ancient tradition. Immersed in the wisdom of nature, your body gets to attune to nature’s rhythms once again. Nourished with clean, plant-forward, organic meals, a natural detoxifying process takes place.
We will enter the dark room for a couple of hours, beginning in shorter segments and gradually building up, as a group every day. There is the option to spend one entire night in the darkroom for selected people. This option is limited to 5 people.
The sensory sensibilities of the body and brain profoundly change when being immersed in complete darkness. Often people experience a free exploration of the vast psychic and spiritual realms and are able to see into the past or future and receive insights about the order of things.
Dark Room Meditation Retreats offer organic and embodied insights into traditional alchemical work: Putrefaction or decomposition is the first phase. The alchemist had to clean and cook all ingredients to a uniform black matter. This is a death and a return to formless chaos. The chaos inevitably comes with a significant loss as one is faced with all existing moral, social, and spiritual values that need to be abandoned in order to realign with the natural order of things.
In today's fast-paced, hyperconnected world, more and more individuals feel isolated and unseen. Many grapple with their pain in silence, thinking they are alone and that they need to be strong and figure everything out by themselves.
We believe in the power of community and this is why we have chosen to create a space where we can be in the community and allow our pain to be witnessed as we courageously embark on this alchemical journey.
In an era where superficial connections are plentiful, but genuine interactions are rare, we want to open a space for vulnerability, creating a new legacy. Being witnessed in our pain is not just about sharing our struggles; it's about understanding the universal human experience and realizing that, in our vulnerability, we find strength, connection, and ultimately, healing.

Hello, my name is Severin.
I left Switzerland in 2008 where I worked as an Accountant and ever since have dedicated myself to the exploration of the Self.
In 2009 I was living and studying for one year Ashtanga Yoga with my teacher Carlos Holguin in Colombia. Shortly after I spent over a year as Buddhist Monk in a controversial Monastery in Thailand. I traveled further and dedicated myself to intensive studies of the Kabbalah at Las Piramides in Guatemala. That's also where my fascination for Astrology arose. I did numerous silent retreats with Hridaya in Mexico and have been working at their center for several years. Through the teachings of Sahajanada I got introduced to the Dark Retreat .
In 2014 me and my partner bought land in Guatemala and started to build our first Dark Retreat which was the beginning of the Hermitage. Ever since we have been guiding and hosting, Silent-, Dark- and Group Retreats here at Lake Atitlan.
Hello, I'm Katrin!
Being a former project manager in an advertising agency, I know how difficult it is to slow down and connect with our hearts. In 2016 I set off to travel and my journey led me to explore ways to foster this connection. These days, I am an international teacher, mentor, and artist supporting beings in embodying their most authentic spiritual expressions in this human reincarnation. My aim is to introduce somatic-based tools to embody Love and deepen one's capacity for intimacy and connection to enable people to create the lives and relationships they yearn for.
Out of my own deep love for various teachings I came across, I am nowadays bridging feminine spiritual practice, sacred sexuality, conscious relationship, somatic awareness techniques, self-inquiry, meditation, Hatha Yoga, trauma therapy, and ritual alchemy in my offerings.
My teaching style is grounded, innovative, deeply mystical, evocative, and rooted in fierce love to wake the innate wisdom within each of us. Embodiment and my own experiences inform my sharing deeply. I therefore have immersed myself deeply in these transformations and have spent over 280 in silent meditation retreats, over 98 days in dark retreats, and have completed two 49-day silent retreats, one as a dark retreat.
